The collection features items designed by factory employees to capture the new environment in which they now are living, creating art with recycled materials. All proceeds from the sale of items in these lines go directly to the employees who designed and made the pieces. Other items from this line were presented to US First Lady Michelle Obama and her daughters during their recent visit to Rio de Janeiro.

Sylvia Nora Barrenechea was born and raised in Mar del Plata, Argentina before moving with her husband to Canada. During the last fifteen years she has lived in a number of different countries. She studied Art and painted in Venezuela, and also studied in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil at Parque Lage where she presented her artwork at different expositions. While living in Halifax, Nova Scotia she attended The Maritimes Art School. Over the years she has presented her work in different parts of the world, including Brazil, Venezuela, Africa and Oman. The painting donated for Taste of Rio was inspired by her experience in Salvador, Bahia.
